Description
Job Opportunity: PreOp Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: Day/Evening shifts, Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts with rotating start times between 6:30 AM and 10:30 AM.
- No on-call requirement; may need to stay past shift end to complete schedule.
- Provide care to patients undergoing outpatient surgical procedures, inpatient and outpatient GI and Bronchoscopy procedures.
- Establish goals and strategies for patient discharge or continuing care needs for patients, families, and other care providers.
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of PreOp / PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Arrhythmia experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Licensure & Certifications
- Must hold a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact nursing license from permanent address state.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required, American Heart Association only.
Additional Requirements
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
- Must complete Telemetry testing and pass prior to start.
- Must complete required background checks and verifications as per state and facility standards.
- Must comply with facility-specific health and vaccination requirements (e.g., TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemptions).
- Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols.

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including criminal, caregiver screening, and education verification as applicable.
- Completion of facility-specific forms such as caregiver screening and state-mandated forms.
- Passing required competency exams including medication/pharmacology and telemetry tests.
- Annual renewal and compliance with certifications and competency exams.
Notes for Candidates
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
- Floating between units is expected based on staffing needs.
- Telemetry testing and remediation process is strict; candidates have up to 3 attempts with required remediation after the 2nd failure.
- Facility requires signed acknowledgment of safety manuals and pass/fail testing policies.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with PACU and acute care backgrounds who are comfortable working in a dynamic hospital environment with rotating shifts and floating responsibilities.
