Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - New York
Location: Massena, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Shift: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend Coverage: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:6
- Nights: 1:7
- Weekends: 1:8
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- No acceptance of first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Local candidates must live more than 50 miles away
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- COPD
- Pneumonia
- Non-specific abdominal pain
- Cellulitis
- Chest pain (rule out)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Required Skills & Competencies
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing skills
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Blood product administration
- Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Care for patients with:
- Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
- Seizure disorders
- Substance withdrawal
- Management of BiPAP/CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Oxygen administration and non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions and proper use of PPE
Technology
- Epic electronic health record system experience required
Uniform
- Any nursing uniform color allowed
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID
- 7-year criminal background check including all aliases
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification from registrar’s office (transcripts/diplomas not accepted)
- State nursing license verification (New York)
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Harassment prevention training certificate (annual requirement)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Completion of patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, and other facility-specific policy reviews prior to start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (PAPR education if fit test failed)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years (TD not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific panel required)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
- References: 2 professional references required
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
- 7-year work history verification
Important Notes
- Must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract (if booked within 30 days of start)
- Strict compliance with expiration dates on health documents; renewal required prior to expiration during contract to avoid removal from assignment
- Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience using Rapid Response and Code teams
- Skilled in central line and PICC line care and management
- Experience managing seizure disorders
- Competent in BiPAP/CPAP management and maintenance
- Skilled in High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) use
- Proficient in non-invasive airway management
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a medical-surgical/telemetry setting with a variety of patient diagnoses and advanced nursing skills.
