Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Roanoke, Virginia
Job Details

- Shift: 4x10 hour shifts (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM) plus on-call
- On-Call Requirements:
- 7 on-call shifts and 5 late shifts every 6 weeks
- One full weekend of call (Friday through Sunday) per 6-week period
- One Saturday shift for elective cases per 6-week period
- Must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes when called
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work or take call one holiday per 13-week contract
- Charting System: Epic required
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
- Locals: Not accepted
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Required Clinical Skills
- Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures including:
- Left and right heart catheterization (LHC, RHC)
- PCI, PTCA, stent placement, atherectomy
- Temporary pacer, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip
- Sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
- Hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
- Experience in diagnostic/interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy
- Able to scrub and circulate all interventional and structural heart procedures (TAVR, Watchman, MitraClip, TriClip, Tricuspid and Mitral Valve transcatheter replacements)
- Experience with Epic, Cupid, Xper monitoring, and hemodynamics
- Knowledge of isolation precautions, equipment handling, and supply management
Unit Details
- Adult patient population
- 6 procedure rooms with daily census of 15–20 patients
- Common diagnoses: coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure, atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closures
- Advanced procedures: TAVR, left atrial appendage closures, Cardiomems, thrombectomy, mitral clips, renal denervation, research protocols
- Equipment includes: IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, laser, OCT, IVUS
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of cardiac cath lab experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures including LHC, RHC, PCI, PTCA, stent placement, atherectomy, temporary pacer, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip
- Able to scrub and circulate interventional cardiology and structural heart procedures including TAVR, Watchman, MitraClip, TriClip, Tricuspid and Mitral valve transcatheter replacements
- Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
- Experienced in hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
- Proficient with Epic, Cupid, and Xper monitoring systems and hemodynamics
Additional Requirements
- Must complete background checks including 7-year history
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Two clinical references required
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Photo for badge required (professional quality, no selfies or filters)
- Must comply with on-call and holiday work requirements

- Must be able to meet strict on-call and return-to-hospital time requirements
- No local candidates or first-time travelers accepted
- Facility uses Epic for charting and requires proficiency
- This is a high-acuity cath lab with advanced cardiac procedures and equipment
This position is ideal for experienced cath lab RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable with advanced cardiac procedures and on-call responsibilities.
