Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse comfortable working across all ICU and PCU units with the ability to float frequently based on staffing needs. This role requires strong critical care skills and experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Schedule Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Floating: May float 2-3 times per shift (every 4 hours)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- First-time travelers accepted
- Local candidates accepted within radius rules
- Call-off policy allows 1 shift call-off per 2 weeks
Required Certifications
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
Required Clinical Skills
- Medication administration skills including continuous IV sedation, emergency meds, and titration of cardiac & vasoactive drips
- Endocrine/metabolic skills including IV insulin protocol adherence
Unit Details
- PCU average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- ICU average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
Required Licenses
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- State License 1
- Nursys
Electronic Health Record
- Experience with Epic
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- State License 1
- Nursys verification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Medication administration skills including continuous IV sedation, emergency meds, and titration of cardiac & vasoactive drips
- Endocrine/metabolic skills including IV insulin protocol adherence
- Experience with Epic
Additional Notes
- Floating assignments are frequent and based on staffing needs every 4 hours
- Must be comfortable working in both ICU and PCU units
- Must work at least one holiday during the contract
- Orientation and compliance paperwork must be completed prior to start
- Call-off policy limits cancellations to maintain staffing stability
