Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Emergency Department experience to join a busy Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center. The unit handles a high volume of patients (>100,000 visits annually) and includes a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric emergency services. The ED is known for teamwork and serving a diverse, multi-cultural community.
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Emergency Department
- Number of Beds: 101
- Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1 medical; up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
- Staffing: Techs available; unit clerks on days and nights
- Equipment: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
- Floating Policy: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
- Patient Experience: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
Required Certifications (Must have before start date)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention Training)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) within 90 days of hire
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department (ED) setting, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Stroke experience
