Job Opportunity: Transplant Abdominal Inpatient Nurse (RN)
Position Details

Patient Population & Care Focus
- Adult medical and telemetry patients
- Live and kidney transplant recipients
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
- First-time travelers may be considered upon review
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Patient Ratios
- RN Day Shift: 1 nurse to 3-5 patients
- RN Night Shift: 1 nurse to 5-7 patients
- CNA Day Shift: 1 CNA to 5-7 patients
- CNA Night Shift: 1 CNA to 6-8 patients
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) not required
Skills and Competencies
- Experience caring for surgical patients
- Patient assessment skills
- Tube feeding and NG tube insertion
- Blood product administration
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation (minimum twice per shift)
- Experience with titratable drips (heparin, insulin, Cardizem) preferred; willingness to learn required if no prior experience
- Strong critical thinking and efficient time management skills
Support and Resources
- Charge RN with reduced patient load available
- Unit leadership present Monday through Friday (AM and PM)
- ICU-trained Resource RN available 24/7
- CNA support
- Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- Phlebotomy services
- Respiratory Therapist (RT) available 24/7
- Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
- Centralized telemonitoring with tele techs
Technology and Equipment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Patient Monitors: GE Monitors
Floating and Orientation
- Floating within scope of practice; travelers float first
- Possible float to Emergency Department inpatient boarding (1:4 ratio)
- Orientation: 1 shift to learn unit flow
Scheduling
- Shift times: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule cycle: 6-week increments
- Weekend rotation: 24 hours of weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- No on-call required
- Holiday work expectations vary
- Requests for time off (RTO) can be approved up to 7 days
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any solid color allowed

- Pain management documentation required: pain level must be documented before and after medication administration; medication must match ordered pain score level or provider must be contacted for appropriate orders
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with surgical patient care skills who are comfortable working in a transplant inpatient setting and managing complex drips and assessments.
