Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Transplant Abdominal Inpatient

Employment Type: Contractor
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit Beds: 26
  • Patient Types: Adult Medical and Telemetry
  • Common Diagnoses: Live and kidney transplants
  • Patient Ratios:
    • RN Days: 1:3-5
    • RN Nights: 1:5-7
    • CNA Days: 1:5-7
    • CNA Nights: 1:6-8

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Certifications: BLS required (ACLS NOT required)
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years telemetry nursing experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers may be considered upon review (prior travel experience not explicitly required)

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience caring for surgical patients
  • Patient assessment skills
  • Tube feeding and NG tube insertion
  • Blood product administration
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation (minimum twice per shift)
  • Experience with titratable drips (heparin, insulin, Cardizem) preferred; willingness to learn if no prior experience
  • Strong critical thinking and efficient time management skills

Support & Resources

  • Charge RN with reduced patient load available
  • Unit leadership present Monday – Friday (AM and PM)
  • ICU-trained Resource RN available 24/7
  • CNA, HUC, Phlebotomy, RT available 24/7
  • Hospitalist and Intensivist coverage 24/7
  • Centralized tele monitoring with tele techs

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR system: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Patient monitors: GE Monitors

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Shift Times: 0700-1900 and 1900-0700
  • Schedule Cycle: 6-week increments
  • Weekend Rotation: 24 hours of weekend shifts per 6 weeks
  • On Call: No
  • Holiday Expectations: Varies
  • Orientation: 1 shift to learn unit flow
  • Approval of Return to Office (RTO): Up to 7 days approved

Additional Information

  • Floating: Travelers float first within scope of practice; includes ED inpatient boarding (1:4 ratio)
  • Scrub Color: Any solid color allowed
  • Parking: Free
  • Pain Management: Must document pain level before and after medication administration; pain score must align with medication order
