Description

Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • First-time travelers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Expected to float within ICU community (CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, Neuro ICU)
  • Block Scheduling: Not available
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (must be outside 100-mile radius)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Required Skills and Special Requirements

  • PA catheter interpretation and analysis
  • Open heart recovery experience (direct from OR preferred)
  • Experience with LVAD, RVAD, Impella, IABP
  • CRRT with Prismaflex and ECMO preferred
  • Ventilator management
  • Hemodynamic monitoring including PA catheters
  • Targeted Temperature Management
  • Bedside tracheostomies and PEG tubes
  • Endotool for glucose monitoring
  • Temporary pacemakers
  • HeartMate 2 & 3 devices
  • CentraMag and Impella devices
  • Balloon pump management

  • Total staffed beds: 672
  • Charting system: Excellian/Epic

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 1 year required
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 1 year required
  • Transcript or diploma verification as applicable
  • Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
  • Adult Tdap vaccination required (exemptions require approval)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start
  • Drug testing within 1 year (9 panel) required but not for client clearance
  • Photo for badge must be passport style, submitted within 48 hours of contract signing

Additional Requirements

  • Medication and pharmacology competency exam required
  • Skills checklist required annually
  • Completion of facility-specific online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment start
  • Badge request forms and photo submission required for access
  • Candidates must comply with facility uniform guidelines

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Minnesota
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • National Tech Cert Verification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficient in PA catheter interpretation and analysis

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to float within ICU units as needed
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required, but first-time travelers are not accepted
  • Candidates with pending licenses are accepted
  • Weekend work every other weekend is mandatory
