Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MedSurg Unit

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) Registered Nurse
• Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Required
• Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio
• Unit Description:

  • Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
  • 26 beds, adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general med-surg
  • Patients monitored continuously with pulse-oximetry and telemetry
  • Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial and central lines, titrated IV infusions
  • Multi-disciplinary team approach with a focus on evidence-based, compassionate care

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Must have a valid New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of MedSurg nursing experience (higher experience requirement applies if conflicting info)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required as per unit description
• Skills:

  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of rapid response/code teams
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including peripheral line care/management
  • Respiratory care skills including nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions

Additional Requirements

• Must live within a 75-mile radius of the facility (locals accepted)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Floating to other units as needed

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (annual)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination preferred but not required

Background and Verification

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony, sex offender, SSN trace, education verification) within 3 months of start
• Employment verification of at least 2 past employments
• Education verification from primary source required
• State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list as applicable

Facility and Orientation

• Facility is a tertiary care hospital with 528 staffed beds
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
• Orientation includes completion of safety manual acknowledgment and competency exams as required by specialty
