Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Day shift position.
- Orientation Day 1: Employee Health screening; Day 2: Floor orientation.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5.
- Patient population includes adult patients with acute medical conditions such as cardiac, neurological, renal, infectious disease, pulmonary, and more.
- Responsible for coordination of direct patient care and patient education.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Self-scheduling available.
- Local candidates within 50 miles radius are not accepted.
- Holiday work policy: If one holiday falls during assignment, expect to work it; if two holidays, expect to work one; if three, expect to work two.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of MedSurg/Telemetry (PCU/Tele) nursing experience within the last year
- Telemetry PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience required
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in specialty.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Virginia State Police Background Check fingerprinting required (effective 7/15/2025).
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start, including marijuana (zero tolerance policy).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- Fit mask test (N95 preferred) required annually; option to complete onsite.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or positive titer or declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation).
- References: 2 professional references required.
- Current application/resume required.
- Skills checklist for specialty required and must be updated annually.
Additional Notes
- Nurses on this unit care for adult patients with a wide variety of acute medical problems.
- Self-scheduling and every other weekend work required.
- Pending licenses are not accepted.
- Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted.
- Holiday work expectations apply as described.
- Orientation includes Employee Health screening and floor orientation.
- Must comply with facility-specific policies including standards of appearance, confidentiality, social media, and others as part of onboarding.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience seeking a travel contract in a progressive care/telemetry unit caring for diverse adult patient populations.
