Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry (MS/Tele) Registered Nurse
- Patient Ratios:
- Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
- Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
- Patient Diagnoses: Acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis
- Special Requirements:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Peripheral line care/management
- Oxygen delivery devices (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks)
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions
- Special Equipment Experience: BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow, Ventilators, tracheostomy care, chest tubes
- Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement required
- Charting system: Epic (preferred)
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white
- Float: May be required to float within scope to like units
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- On-call: Not required
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Block scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
- Blackout Dates: No return to office May 8-10
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- National Tech Certification verification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License primary source verification
- NURSYS verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Peripheral line care and management
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask testing within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Documentation and Verification
- References: 2 references within 3 years (required for direct hire only)
- Employment application and work history verification required
- Skills checklist required annually
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and compliance attestations
Notes
- No pending licenses accepted
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 1 week allowed during contract
- Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing who are comfortable managing acute respiratory and cardiac patients, have strong IV and phlebotomy skills, and are willing to work a travel contract in Rochester, NY.
