Job Opportunity: Wound Care Registered Nurse

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Must be a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) or Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Proficient in pressure injury assessment, management, and treatment
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Addressing and preventing pressure injuries
    • Collaborating with primary nurses and educators
    • Validating staging, assessments, documentation, and treatments of pressure injuries
    • Maintaining documentation in Excel for key patient metrics (e.g., staging, hospital-acquired vs. present on admission)
  • Patient care in ICU setting, including open heart surgery, heart and lung transplant cases
  • Must be proficient in acute care/critical care environment
  • Flexible with end-of-shift times based on documentation, admissions/discharges, and staffing needs
  • Suitable for first-time travelers and local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Wound Care experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • IV Certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Proficiency in an acute care/critical care setting (ICU), including care for patients in ICU with open heart surgery and heart and lung transplant cases

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for all adult critical care units including ICU, ED, MS/Telemetry, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Labor & Delivery units; must be updated annually
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RNs; must be completed within 72 hours of signing and within 12 months of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for adult critical care units, ED, MS/Telemetry, Telemetry, PCU, Observation Units, IMC, Step-Down, PACU, Cath Lab, Educators
  • IV Certification: Required for all RNs except those in OR specialties; must be on file by 6/1/2026
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Pharmacology and Basic EKG exams required for clinical staff in specified units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs; certification through Iron Temple with online and in-person portions
  • Other Certifications: Depending on unit assignment, additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM may be required (verify with program coordinator)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within the past 12 months confirming clearance to perform job duties and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Respirator medical clearance and fit testing prior to start (mandatory on-site fit test)
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment

Background & Documentation

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)
  • Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Various facility-specific attestations and acknowledgments required prior to start

  • Must be flexible with shift end times due to patient care needs and staffing
  • Documentation and compliance with all required certifications and health screenings are mandatory for clearance and continued assignment
  • First-time travel nurses and local candidates are welcome
