Description

Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel Assignment)

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Heart Telemetry
  • Number of Beds: 25
  • Staffing: 40+ staff members
  • Day Shift: 1 free charge nurse, 1 unit coordinator, 2 patient care technicians (PCTs), 5 RNs
  • Night Shift: 5 RNs, 1 PCT
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 6:1, sometimes 5:1
  • Equipment Used: Baxter IV Pumps, KCI wound vacs, Sequential Compression Device (SCD) pumps
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Meditech EMR system
  • Prior telemetry experience

Typical Procedures and Skills

In addition to general medical-surgical nursing competencies, preferred skills include the ability to:

  • Manage chest tubes
  • Manage non-titrated Cardizem and Amiodarone drips
  • Manage weight-based heparin drips

Work Environment & Dress Code

  • Scrub color: Royal blue
  • Patient care on a telemetry unit with a focus on cardiac monitoring and related interventions
