Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Salem, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: Emergency Department
• Number of Beds: 27
• Staff: 50 RNs, 25 Medics
• Shifts:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics; additional 4-5 RNs at 11am; 1-2 RNs at 3pm
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of 2-3 prior travel nursing assignments
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2-3 years of Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience (highest requirement applied)
• Must have completed 2-3 prior travel nursing assignments
• Experience in high acuity, fast-paced, high volume ER settings preferred
• Familiarity with patient ratios around 5:1 preferred

Typical Procedures Performed

• Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
• Sepsis interventions
• Stroke protocol including tPA administration
• Central line placement
• Care of psychiatric patients
• Transfers to other facilities (EMTALA compliance)
