Job Opportunity: Case Manager (Registered Nurse)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (08:00 AM - 04:30 PM)
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • On Call: None
  • Weekend Requirement: None
  • Work Setting: Primarily office-based with field visits required approximately 2 days per week (mileage reimbursed)
  • Candidate Preference: Local candidates within 60 miles of the area preferred
  • Start Date: Position begins May 1

Job Description

  • Provide complex case management services, including care coordination, discharge planning, and utilization of admission criteria.
  • Experience with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) preferred.
  • Manage chronic diagnoses such as high-risk pregnancy, postpartum, diabetes, CHF, COPD, asthma, obesity, and behavioral health conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop care plans for enrollees in the local area.
  • Utilize EMR systems for ongoing management and documentation.
  • Business casual dress code.

Required Qualifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license for District of Columbia required prior to start date. Pending DC RN license status accepted at time of application but must be active before starting.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC certified
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
    • Experience in acute hospital settings, long-term acute care, rehab, skilled nursing, admission criteria, care coordination, discharge planning.
    • Familiarity with InterQual Criteria and Milliman Guidelines.
    • Regulatory knowledge including CPT codes, Department of Health DRG, HEDIS measures, NCQA, OSHA procedures, and Joint Commission standards.
    • Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Travel Experience: First-time travelers are welcome to apply; prior travel experience is not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide proof of pending DC RN license at time of application.
  • Must have DC RN license in hand prior to start date.
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information.
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including multi-state searches.
  • Drug screening within 90 days of start (does not include marijuana).
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Immunizations and health documentation required: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB testing, flu vaccination or approved exemption.
  • N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety modules prior to start.

Work Environment

  • Case managers will work with a population having multiple chronic and complex conditions.
  • Field visits to patient homes or community settings may be required twice weekly.
  • Communication primarily with enrollees in the local area via phone and EMR documentation.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse Case Manager with at least 2 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably with complex case management and regulatory knowledge. The position requires a DC RN license prior to start and offers a primarily day shift schedule with no on-call or weekend requirements. First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply.
