Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Maryville, Tennessee

Shift Details

• Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours per week)
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Float required: May be floated to other units based on need and skill set
• Staffing Ratios (Nights): 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Patient Age Group: Adults & Geriatrics
• Medication System: Omnicell

Patient Diagnoses & Unit Details

• Common patient conditions: Stroke/TIA, Seizure, Syncope, Pneumonia, Chest Pain, Dialysis, Acute Kidney Failure, Post Heart Catheterization, Respiratory Failure, Encephalopathy, Congestive Heart Failure, Sepsis
• Unit focus: Inpatient stroke and TIA patients, higher acuity medical-surgical patients
• Special procedures: Peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation
• Highly focused on patient experience

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Must have at least 1 year of EPIC electronic health record experience
• Prior travel experience not allowed (No first-time travelers)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active Tennessee RN license required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to float to other units as needed
• Pass/Fail testing on medication and arrhythmia exams required prior to start
• Completion of online orientation modules within 72 hours of assignment
• Background checks including 7-year history and various federal/state screenings required
• Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations and health screenings required (e.g., TB test, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or exemption)
• Drug screening within 1 year and updated annually
• Badge photo required prior to start
• Annual competencies and training including Core Parts I, II, and III, medication competency, and safety training

Patient Care Environment

• Adult and geriatric patients with neurological and medical-surgical conditions
• Use of advanced medication dispensing systems
• High acuity and complex patient care requiring strong clinical skills

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with a Tennessee RN license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. The role involves working night shifts on a medical/surgical telemetry unit with a focus on stroke and high acuity patients. Candidates must have prior EPIC experience and cannot be first-time travelers. The position requires flexibility to float to other units and completion of required testing and orientation prior to starting.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience of at least 1 year within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
