Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a travel contract position in the Emergency Department. This role requires flexibility with scheduling and adherence to strict attendance policies.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Evenings, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
- 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Acute hospital experience required
- Experience in ICU, Medical-Surgical, PICU, Step-Down Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Intermediate Care, or Observation specialties required
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- NO first-time travelers accepted
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- Pass/Fail EKG competency exam required for all RNs
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred or required depending on unit
- Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Skills & Competencies
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
- Case management and utilization review skills including discharge planning, needs assessment, ordering durable medical equipment, and care planning
- Regulatory experience with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) requirements
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required
- Ability to pass a medication test and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- TB test or chest X-ray (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Fit mask test (N95) completed within the current calendar year
- Physical exam (if applicable)
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety acknowledgements
- Completion of Pass/Fail testing for EPIC and EKG exams (2 attempts allowed)
- Submission of a professional badge photo meeting strict guidelines (no selfies, solid background, business casual attire)
- References: 2 supervisory references required, with at least one from the past 12 months
- Employment application/resume with 7 years of work history
- Verification of all employment within the last 5 years
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of case management experience, including experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Discharge planning experience
- Utilization review experience
- Experience in the following specialties:
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
- Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
- PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Intermediate Care
Important Notes
- Candidates must be aware of and agree to the zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers accepted
- Fingerprinting required for certain positions (Home Health and Long-Term Care only) and must be completed in North Carolina prior to start
- Candidates must complete all compliance requirements by the deadline prior to start date
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with acute care backgrounds who are comfortable working in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment and have prior travel nursing experience.
