- 14 Operating Rooms
Job Description
- Surgical Room RN with focus on circulating in OR
- Case types include Orthopedics (35% of cases), Gynecology, General Surgery, Bariatrics, Plastics, Urology
- Robotics experience required with DaVinci XI and Stryker Mako Robot (mostly knees)
- No neuro, complicated spine, or baby deliveries
- Typical cases per day: 20-23
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of OR experience as an RN
- First-time travelers accepted only if they have 3+ years of OR experience
- Required skills: circulating, DaVinci robotic system, GYN, ortho, and general surgery experience
- Scrub experience preferred
- PACU backup experience for recovery patients preferred
Required Licenses and Certifications
- RN: BLS required; ACLS and CNOR preferred
Required Skills and Competencies
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required
- Ability to circulate in OR and familiarity with robotic surgery
- Experience with GYN, ortho, and general surgery cases
- Ability to provide PACU backup for recovery patients
Support and Team Structure
- Charge RN available (Shift 1: no patient assignment; Shift 2: occasional assignment)
- Leadership includes Leads who take patient assignments
- OR Educator, Surgeons, and Anesthesia Team support available
Technology and Equipment
- EMR: EPIC (required)
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis
- Other equipment: iStat (Hemochron), GE C-arm (staff responsible for setup only)
Floating
- RN may float to inpatient units for tasks or sitter duties if census is low (no patient assignments)
- Optional float locations available
Orientation
- 3-5 days of orientation (8 hours per day)
- Day 1: Meet with Nurse Manager and Educator, complete CBLs, badge, login access, and spend remainder of shift with preceptor
- Days 2-5: Orientation on unit with preceptor
Scheduling
- Monday to Friday, 0630-1500
- Weekend rotation based on needs (for RN and other surgical roles)
- Will not flex before 0600
- Call based on unit needs
- Weekend call shifts run 0630-0630 (Saturday or Sunday)
Holiday Expectations
- 1 holiday expected
- Approval of time off requests up to 7 days allowed
