Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatrics
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- 13-week travel contract
- Unit types include General Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, and Surgical
- Must have chemotherapy/oncology experience
- Will float to PICU and NICU as needed; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
- Every other weekend schedule (Saturday/Sunday)
- Patient ratio approximately 1:5
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy
- First-time travelers accepted
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of pediatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Oncology experience, including chemotherapy/oncology experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- IV Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to float to PICU and NICU units
- Block or special scheduling requires prior approval at time of booking
- References: 2 references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year of prior work history with no gaps longer than 30 days
Compliance & Documentation
- Background check within 30 days of start, including criminal, alias, and nationwide searches
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing required prior to start
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Various competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy, and pass/fail testing for EKG/medications
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Color blindness testing if job tasks require color discrimination
Scheduling & Float Policy
- Floating to PICU and NICU required for appropriate assignments
- Additional float units may be assigned based on hospital needs and skill set
- Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment
Prior Travel Experience
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are accepted
Patient Care Ratio
- Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
Notes
- Candidates must bring all required documentation on the first day of orientation
- On-site fit testing is mandatory
- Candidates with facial hair must be clean-shaven for fit testing unless approved accommodation is provided
- Block/special scheduling cannot be accommodated unless approved at booking
