Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Beds: 44
  • Staffing:
    • Day Shift: 2 CNC/Charge Nurses, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 HUC
    • Night Shift: 2 CNC/Charge Nurses, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, 1 HUC
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1, stretched to 5:1
  • Equipment Used: IV pumps, Skylift, PCA pump, Chest tubes, Trachs, Patient lifts
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a Progressive Care Unit specializing in neuro and trauma care.
  • Typical procedures include:
    • Neuro and spinal checks
    • C-Collar placement, TLSO braces
    • Chest tube management, PCA pump operation, IV infusions
    • Lumbar drain care
    • Feeding tube placement
    • Blood transfusions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of recent experience in a Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Experience in neuro trauma care
  • Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS

Additional Information

  • Floating areas may include stepdown units and med-surg units
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend required
