Description
Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Medical Surgical unit (Med Surg: a3/C3)
- Night shift with a staffing ratio of 1:5 or 1:6
- Must be willing to float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
- No local candidates within a 50-mile radius or specified counties (including Saratoga, Albany, and others)
- Flu vaccine required by December 5th; medical or religious exemptions must be approved 2 weeks prior to start
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications & Competencies
- Successful completion of advanced EKG/ECG testing with a minimum passing score (90%) within 72 hours of contract signing; up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation if needed
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing preferred
- Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State requirement for RNs)
- Other certifications as applicable (e.g., PALS, NIH Stroke Certification) depending on unit assignment
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; must complete onsite physical including specific medical history forms
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold) within 1 year; chest X-ray if prior positive PPD
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Fit testing for N95 mask (3M 1870) required; quantitative test only accepted if done externally
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually during flu season
- Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test prior to start
Additional Notes
- Must provide 2 professional references for travel or acute care experience within 2 years
- Facility requires a passport-style photo for badge issuance
- Various facility-specific documents and training modules must be completed prior to start
- Candidate must be prepared to comply with all background checks and verifications as per standard travel nursing protocols
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with acute care background and prior travel assignments, comfortable working night shifts and flexible with floating assignments.
