Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
Location: Salem, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: Emergency Department
- Number of Beds: 27
- Staff: 50 RNs, 25 Medics
- Shifts:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics; additional 4-5 RNs at 11am; 1-2 RNs at 3pm
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics
- Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse
- EMR System: Meditech
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of 2-3 prior travel nursing assignments
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
Job Responsibilities & Skills
- Perform procedures such as:
- Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
- Sepsis interventions
- Stroke protocol including tPA administration
- Central line placement
- Care of psychiatric patients
- Transfers to other facilities (EMTALA compliance)
- Work in a high-acuity, fast-paced, high-volume ER environment
- Manage patient ratios typically around 5:1
Work Schedule & Environment
- Weekly Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend Shifts: Four weekend shifts in a four-week period (Friday or Saturday nights; Saturday or Sunday days)
- No on-call requirements
- Dress Code: Navy blue or white scrubs
- Personality Fit: Relaxed, easy-going, friendly, team-oriented, respectful

- No floating to other units required
