Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in an Intermediate Care (IMC) unit specializing in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery patients.
- Patient acuity includes MS (Medical-Surgical) and IMC level patients.
- Typical patient diagnoses:
- Cardiothoracic surgery (e.g., CABG, femoral bypass, thoracotomy, VATS, CEA)
- Cath lab procedures (STEMI/NSTEMI, coronary artery disease)
- CHF exacerbations
- Bradycardia, pacemaker management
- Dysrhythmias (Afib, Aflutter, SVT, Vtach with pulse)
- Hemothorax/pneumothorax patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (patient ratio experience required)
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities, is required.
Shift Details
- Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total hours per week: 36
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in cardiology and thoracic surgery patient care
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- EKG Course / Telemetry test
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Patient ratio experience: 1:4
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license and a utility bill in the traveler’s name with matching address dated within the last 3 months; address must be more than 75 miles from the contracted facility
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- No local candidates accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- No more than 5 days of Return to Office (RTO) allowed
Facility & Unit Information
- Unit staffed beds: 16
- Average daily census: 16
- Charting system: Epic
- Unit admits MS and IMC level patients, primarily cardiology-related but accepts any MS or IMC patient
- Safe staffing matrix based on patient acuity
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and various federal/state sanction lists (updated within 30 days of start)
- Education verification of highest degree (diploma/transcript required)
- Physical exam within 1 year stating good health and no physical limitations
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox
- Hepatitis B: completed series, positive titer, or declination (annual)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: valid within 10 years (Tdap mandatory for certain units)
- Flu vaccine required annually or approved exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccination strongly preferred; declinations accepted with agency form
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (including marijuana)
- Fit mask testing completed onsite on first day
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and training modules, including patient care orientation and Epic training if no recent experience
- Completion of facility policy acknowledgments and ethical business conduct forms prior to start
- Vehicle information documentation required before clearance
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (100% passing score, updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (90% passing score, updated annually)
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) covering safety, patient rights, ethics, and workplace violence (80% passing score, updated annually)
- Conscious sedation competency exam if applicable (80% passing score, updated annually)
- Color blindness testing within 60 days prior to start
- Skills checklist aligned with competency exams, updated annually
References & Work History
- Two references from former direct supervisors required (one within 1 year, one within 3 years)
- Employment history covering last 10 years verified, including international positions and explanations for gaps over 30 days
Additional Notes
- Floating to sister facilities is required
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
- No pending state licenses accepted
- Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel assignment
