Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location
- City: Matthews, North Carolina
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shift, 8 hours per day (07:45 AM - 05:15 PM), 5 days per week, 40 hours total
- Patient Population: Adults (18+) with Hematology & Medical Oncology diagnoses
- Unit Size: 10 infusion chairs with social distancing measures
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Weekend Requirement: None
- Call Requirement: None
- Float Requirement: Must be able to float between two clinic locations approximately 14 miles apart (~20 minutes)
- Scrubs: Not provided; navy blue scrubs required
- Orientation: 8 hours, varies by skill level; includes hospital orientation during week one with daily classes
- Special Equipment: Ambulatory infusion pumps
- Unit Systems: Pyxis, Epic, Zoom, Microsoft Teams
- Medication Mixing: Handled by pharmacy/mixing techs
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (Chemo/Bio Card)
- Experience with central line care and management
Compliance and Screening
- Pre-shift COVID-19 screening required
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
- Local and federal criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification for highest degree earned
- State-specific healthcare personnel registry and medical assistance exclusion lists (North Carolina)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Required titers or vaccinations for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for Oncology nurses not in clinic settings; must pass with 82% or higher)
- Color blindness testing within 1 year
- Other Required Documents:
- Employment application
- References (2 professional references within 3 years for travel nurses)
- Performance evaluation if worked with agency over 1 year
- Skills checklist as applicable
Orientation and Training
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Must complete annual compliance training and medication safety modules
- Additional state-specific mandatory education for South Carolina if applicable
- Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required
- Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, white background, business attire)
Additional Notes
- No call-offs or additional time off allowed after booking; excessive time off may result in cancellation
- Candidates must be available for all orientation classes during week one
- Radiation badges required only for specific tech and radiology roles (not applicable here)
- Candidates must complete the facility’s Corp ID process prior to start, including logging into the learning system and providing proof
- No weekend shifts or call responsibilities
- Floating between two clinic locations required
This position is ideal for an experienced Oncology RN with chemotherapy and central line skills seeking a 13-week travel contract in North Carolina with day shifts and no weekends or call. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
