Description

Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset to other PCUs and possibly Medical-Surgical units
  • Patient Ratio: Goal 4:1, typically 5:1
  • Unit: 25-bed Medical Unit specializing in acutely and chronically ill adults with complex medical diagnoses
  • Telemetry: Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting support

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Competency in chest tube management
  • Competency in PICC line management
  • Experience in telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with EPIC charting system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing (must meet radius rule criteria)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start (covering all locations lived/worked)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma of highest earned degree
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification (for RNs) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters)
  • Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
  • References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application/resume
  • Annual skills checklist update

Additional Information

  • Facility allows call off of 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Locals accepted within radius rule
  • Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
  • Candidates must sign compliance and confidentiality agreements within 48 hours of signing contract
  • Candidates must complete fit testing form regardless of prior fit test status (except students)
