ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Roanoke, Virginia


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – ICU (Neuro)
  • Location: Roanoke, Virginia
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset as needed

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Unit & Patient Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
  • Patient diagnoses include stroke, neurosurgery, neuro-specific conditions, and complex spine cases
  • Special procedures include management of EVDs and therapeutic thermoregulation

Scheduling & Policies

  • All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Locals accepted within a specified radius

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I-9 or attestation required
  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID with an address within 100 miles of the facility required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, valid within 1 year of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals/extensions
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination documentation or declination with masking requirement during flu season
  • Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
  • Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
  • Orientation safety manual review (not required for inpatient RNs)
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable
  • Two clinical references required
  • Complete employment application/resume required
  • Annual skills checklist update required

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center with nationally recognized specialty services
  • Nurse will care for complex neuro patients requiring advanced critical care skills
