Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 4 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Primarily assigned to Labor & Delivery (L&D) with floating to PICU, NICU, and Pediatrics units as needed.
  • Must have experience in L&D and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
  • Children's hospital experience required within the last 3 years.
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required.
  • May float to other hospital locations as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Indiana.
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience.
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience.
  • Children's hospital experience within the last 3 years.
  • L&D experience required.
  • Open to candidates with experience at a level 1 adult facility.
  • First-time travelers accepted.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Unit & Floating Information

  • Home unit assignment will be NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics based on facility needs.
  • Floating between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units is expected.
  • May also float to other hospital locations within the system.

Licensing & Compliance

  • Indiana State Respiratory Therapist license required; temporary license accepted if permanent license application is in process.
  • Online license verification required within 30 days before start.
  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7-year work/living history.
    • SSN trace, county/state/national criminal checks.
    • Sex offender registry.
    • Education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required.
  • Tuberculosis screening required within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT).
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); declinations not accepted.
  • Color blind exam required (Ishihara or equivalent, minimum 100% score).

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of mandatory RRT modules (21 modules) required before orientation.
  • Facility-specific orientation packets and compliance checklists must be completed prior to start.
  • Unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam required.
  • HIPAA and safety manual acknowledgements required.

Additional Notes

  • Must confirm comfort and awareness of every other weekend shift requirement before submission.
  • Indiana RRTs will not be allowed to work at the facility after 11/30/2024, except for certain exempt specialties (Periop/OR RNs, Allied, Ambulatory RNs).
  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport required (clear copy).
  • Employment application must be current and include explanations for any gaps over 30 days within the last 7 years.
  • Skills checklist must be completed within 12 months and updated annually.
