Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Fishersville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Unit: 32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practices
- Floating: Position requires floating to cover staffing needs occasionally
- Scheduling: Staff assigned to groups for self-scheduling, rotated weekly
- Holiday Rotation: Must work one summer and one winter holiday during assignment; if multiple holidays occur, expect to work proportionally (e.g., if two holidays, work one)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check (including SSN trace, counties, state, nationwide, sex offender registry) within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Virginia State Police background check performed by facility
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (includes marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
- Immunizations & Health:
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or chest X-ray if positive TB)
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Annual flu vaccination during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed with facility-specific forms)
- Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit test required (3M 1870+ preferred); onsite testing available
- References: 2 professional references required
- Employment Application/Resume: Current and required
- Skills Checklist: Required and updated annually
Orientation & Facility Policies
- Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgement and various facility-specific policy reviews and sign-offs (e.g., confidentiality, social media, dress code, masking, compliance)
- Candidates must complete multiple facility-specific forms prior to start (e.g., demographic info, medical/work history, workplace wellness consent)
- Facility requires review and initialing of standards of appearance, conduct, and dress code guidance
- Candidates must complete patient care disclosure and policy/procedure acknowledgements before starting
Additional Notes
- On the first day, the RN will take drug screening at Employee Health and then leave; first shift begins the following day
- Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed
- The unit uses advanced equipment including Hercules beds and embraces innovative nursing practices
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of medical-surgical experience who are comfortable working night shifts, floating, and participating in holiday rotations. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
