Description

Registered Nurse – Med/Surg

Location: Gardner, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 32-hour evening shift (3:00 pm - 11:30 pm), every other weekend and holiday


Job Summary

Provide nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans. Deliver care based on standards, protocols, and policies while respecting patient dignity. Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure continuity and quality of care. Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely, monitor cardiac rhythms, and manage pain effectively. Support surgical patients with ongoing assessment, teaching, and equipment management.


Essential Functions

  • Assess and reassess patients; develop and evaluate nursing interventions and patient goals.
  • Provide patient and family education tailored to learning needs and readiness.
  • Collaborate on discharge planning incorporating support systems and resources.
  • Delegate and supervise nursing interventions appropriately.
  • Prioritize patient care and seek assistance or emergency intervention as needed.
  • Document all patient data, interventions, and responses accurately and timely.
  • Report patient status to healthcare team members to ensure integrated care.
  • Promote professional development and serve as a preceptor or trainer.
  • Identify and report patient safety risks and ethical issues.
  • Administer medications and IV therapy per orders and protocols.
  • Assess and manage patient pain using numerical scales and pain management devices.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms (PR ST segment) and initiate treatment plans as ordered.
  • Manage surgical patient equipment such as traction devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and drains.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally exert 20 to 50 pounds of force; frequently exert 10 to 25 pounds; constantly exert up to 10 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching, handling, and feeling with hands.
  • Occasional stooping and kneeling.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • ATT certification.

  • Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
