Description
Registered Nurse, Surgical Day Care
Location: Gardner, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans and goals.
- Deliver patient care following standards of care, protocols, and established policies.
- Support patient dignity and positive self-regard through individualized care.
- Educate patients and families based on learning needs and readiness.
- Collaborate on discharge planning incorporating necessary support systems.
- Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others appropriately.
- Prioritize patient care, seek assistance, and recognize emergency needs.
- Document all relevant data, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely.
- Communicate thorough reports to healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Promote professional development and learning for self and colleagues.
- Identify and report patient safety risks and healthcare errors.
- Address ethical issues in patient care.
- Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy per orders and protocols.
- Assess and manage patient pain levels, documenting responses and notifying physicians as needed.
- Complete medication reconciliation documentation for attending physicians.
- Perform pre-admission testing and nursing assessments for surgical day care patients, including blood draws and EKGs.
- Review pre-operative orders and test results, communicating abnormalities to appropriate providers.
- Verify completeness of preoperative documentation (consent forms, history & physical, labs).
- Provide emotional support to patients experiencing changes due to surgery.
- Conduct and document post-operative phone calls to surgical day care patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of perioperative nursing experience within the last year
- Acute care nursing experience
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- ATT (Advanced Trauma Training) certification
- CCHT (Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
