Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: La Plata, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Patient Age Group: Neonates, Adolescents, Adults
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Unit and Job Details
- Work in a community hospital setting with a 4-bed Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) room, 1 OR, and 2 triage/antepartum labor and delivery units.
- The Mother-Baby unit has 12 beds and also cares for GYN/Women’s Surgical patients.
- Level 1 Well Baby Nursery; typically cares for babies 35 weeks gestation and above, with stabilization and transfer for earlier gestation deliveries.
- Staff are required to work across all areas of the department.
- Preference for staff trained in LDRP or comfortable working in Mother-Baby/Labor & Delivery, including circulating and catching babies.
- Epic electronic medical record system is used.
- Approximately 50-60 deliveries per month.
- Floating within the specialty and to mother-baby/postpartum as needed.
- Every other weekend and holidays as scheduled are required.
- On-call is not required.
- All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; no changes allowed post-offer.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Labor and Delivery experience within the last year, minimum 1 year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NCC C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per Maryland state guidelines, updated annually.
- Fit test for N95 respirator within 1 year of start.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted; series not accepted)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (October–March).
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel plus Fentanyl) within 30-45 days prior to start.
- COVID vaccine not required for this location; medical/religious exemptions accepted if required in future.
Background and Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start; felonies within 5 years are automatic decline.
- Education verification for highest level completed.
- Employment history verification for previous 5 years.
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start.
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- I9 or attestation required.
- E-Verify or attestation required.
- Various facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, dress code review, badge photo, and computer system agreements must be completed prior to start.
Additional Information
- Medication, pharmacology, age-specific, dysrhythmia/EKG, and color blindness competency exams required as applicable.
- Epic Portfolio Training Test Out option available for experienced Epic users.
- Floating within specialty and mother-baby/postpartum units as needed.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- All required certifications and documents must be current and uploaded as per facility guidelines.
This position offers a focused Labor and Delivery nursing experience in a community hospital setting with a supportive team and a manageable patient ratio. It is suitable for RNs with strong L&D skills seeking a night shift travel contract.
