Job Opportunity: PCU Float Nurse (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float pool position primarily covering Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shifts with potential to float to other stepdown/PCU areas and campuses of similar or lower acuity.
- Estimated patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients.
- Shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer without proof of vaccines.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with pending drug screen.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies (required for new contracts).
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
- Employment application required including education verification for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
Parking
- Parking permits available for purchase; options vary by convenience and cost.
Notes
- Candidates may be required to float to other units or campuses with similar or lower acuity.
- Background check and fingerprinting results with any hits require additional documentation and adjudication.
- Fingerprinting must be completed at approved locations; out-of-state candidates may have longer processing times.
- Candidates with breaks in service longer than 90 days must renew fingerprinting if older than 1 year.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with telemetry monitoring, IV skills, and working night shifts in a float pool capacity within a progressive care environment.
