Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Surgical (Med Surg) - Level a3/C3
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
• Patient ratio: 1:5 or 1:6 on nights
• Floating: Must be willing to float within scope of practice and at unit leader’s discretion
• Electronic Health Record: EPIC system experience required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record system

Health & Safety Requirements

• Flu vaccine required by December 5th, 2024, or approved medical/religious exemption submitted at least 2 weeks prior to start
• Negative 2-step PPD test or Quantiferon Gold within 1 year of start (T-spot tests not accepted)
• Negative chest X-ray required if history of positive PPD, dated within 1 year of employment
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
• 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (specific lab and panel requirements apply)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start; must complete facility-specific medical history forms during occupational health appointment
• N95 mask fit test required (quantitative test only accepted for 3M 1870 mask)
• Color vision test (Ishihara) required prior to start (can be completed onsite)
• Completion of facility-required health and safety modules and training prior to start

Compliance & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required
• Passport-style photo for badge with specific guidelines (plain background, no hats/sunglasses, neutral/friendly expression)
• Background checks including 7-year county searches, SS trace, nationwide, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (updated annually)
• Facility-specific releases and authorizations must be signed prior to start
• Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required for all RNs (per New York State mandate)
• References:

  • 2 professional references required for travel, allied, and per diem acute care roles
  • 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles

Location & Travel Restrictions

• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from Saratoga Springs, NY
• Candidates with primary residence in the following counties are not eligible:
  Warren, Washington, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Ulster

Additional Notes

• Flu season protocols remain in effect until officially declared over by NY State Department of Health or vaccine expiration
• Facility requires completion of virtual orientation and clinical testing modules by the Wednesday prior to start date
• Candidates must be prepared to complete lift assessments (typically 25 lbs, may be 10 lbs depending on position)

This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs with prior travel nursing experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a medical-surgical setting and meeting comprehensive health and compliance requirements.
