Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Adults
Location
- Roanoke, Virginia

Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Option for 4 shifts per week available upon request
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Critical care experience
- Experience with medical/surgical ICU patients
- Experience with cardiovascular services
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Experience Requirements
- Must have critical care experience to work in a high-volume Emergency Room (Level 1 Trauma Center)
- Experience with neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU patients
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required; first-time travelers accepted
Clinical Skills
- Proficient in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler)
- Skilled in administering medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
- Competent in arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and ventilator management (BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, weaning from mechanical ventilation)
- Airway management skills: extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, tracheostomy care
- Proficient in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
Unit and Patient Population
- Patient ratio approximately 1:25
- Serves adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Robust Assess and Treat protocols with ventilator management and liberation policies
- Equipment used includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) with iNOvent, and LTV1200 ventilators
- Floating within skillset required
Required Documentation and Compliance
- I-9 or attestation
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address verification (must be more than 100 miles from facility to qualify as travel)
- E-Verify or attestation
- 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (not required annually unless break in assignments over 30 days)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
- Education verification including transcript/diploma for RRTs
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Two clinical references required
- Completed employment application/resume
- Annual skills checklist update
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements within 48 hours of signing
- Orientation Safety Manual review and acknowledgment prior to start
Additional Notes
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Locals are not accepted due to radius restrictions
- Candidates must submit all scheduling requests with application
- Candidates must work in a high-acuity environment with trauma and critical care patients
