- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday if needed
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Active New York State LPN license (NY is not a Compact state; pending licenses not accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted)
Required Clinical Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 2 years
- Ability to take own patient assignment with RN support
- Skills in:
- Blood product administration
- Central line and peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy and PICC line management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oxygen tanks
- Tracheostomy care/management
- Feeding tube care/management
- Heparin protocols
- Pacemakers (temporary and permanent)
- Telemetry monitoring on the unit
- Use of rapid response/code teams
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care and wound vac management
- Musculoskeletal/Telemetry, orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, surgical drains
Unit and Work Environment
- Patient ratio: 1:5–6
- Unit serves complex care patients including medicine, orthopedic overflow, and complex long-term patients
- Floating within skillset required
- Uniform: Navy blue and white scrubs (any combination)
Charting System
- EPIC experience required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid LPN/LVN license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Tracheostomy care and management
- Knowledge and application of heparin protocols
- Experience with temporary and permanent pacemakers
- Proficiency with EPIC charting system
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Various certifications and verifications required within 30 days of start (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification) as applicable by unit
- Health requirements to be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
- Competency exams and color blindness testing as required
- Photo for badge required (passport-style with solid background)
- Employment application and work history verification required
- References required for some candidates (2 references within 3 years)
- State-specific requirements including criminal background fingerprinting and registry checks as applicable

- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted with adjusted pay rate
- Call-off policy allows up to three canceled shifts during the contract without penalty
This position is suited for experienced LPNs with acute care skills looking for a travel contract in a complex care medical surgical unit with night shifts and weekend/holiday availability.
