Description

Job Opportunity: RN - Women's Health and Obstetrics

Position Details

  • Employment Type: Contractor
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour night shift
  • Hours per Week: 36

Unit and Patient Information

  • Unit Type: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) and Obstetrics
  • Unit Beds:
    • LDRP: 12 beds
    • 2 triage rooms
    • 2 Operating Rooms
    • Level II NICU with 10 beds
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 60-80 births per month
  • Patient Types:
    • Pregnant patients 32 weeks gestation and above
    • Majority are lower risk cases
    • Common diagnoses include hypertension, diabetes, elevated BMI, substance abuse medication management, magnesium administration, epidurals
    • Post-delivery care continues in the same room
    • Post-women’s surgeries experience preferred

Patient Ratios

  • 1:1 for laboring patients
  • 1:2 for active labor
  • 1:3 for couplets (mother and baby)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of LDRP nursing experience
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification

Required Skills

  • Cervical exams
  • Amnio infusions
  • Epidural management
  • Fetal monitoring
  • IV starts and management
  • Pitocin administration
  • Baby catching/receiving and APGAR scoring
  • Basic breastfeeding education
  • Comfortable managing all aspects of postpartum care from transition to discharge for mother and baby

Support and Resources

  • 2 nursing techs available
  • Charge nurse available and will take patients
  • Phlebotomy services available
  • Labor & Delivery anesthesia always on call
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
  • OBGYNs on call (not necessarily on unit 24/7)
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Hospitalist coverage 24/7
  • Lactation consultant available during the day to meet with every patient before discharge
  • Management available during daytime hours

Technology and Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC (preferred)
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Patient monitors: QS Centricity

Orientation and Scheduling

  • Orientation:
    • New Employee Orientation (NEO)
    • 1-2 days unit orientation depending on comfort level
  • Scheduling:
    • Weekend rotation every 4th weekend
    • No on-call required
    • Holiday work every other holiday
    • Request time off (RTO) can be approved with 7 days notice
    • Shift times:
      • 06:45 AM to 07:15 PM
      • 06:45 PM to 07:15 AM
    • Schedule cycles are 6 weeks long, created by Lead RN, and provided 2 weeks in advance
