Job Opportunity: RN - Women's Health and Obstetrics

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour night shift (approximately 36 hours per week)
• Schedule Cycle: 6 weeks schedule created by Lead RN, provided 2 weeks in advance
• Weekend Rotation: Every 4th weekend
• Holiday Expectation: Every other holiday
• On Call: No
• Request Time Off (RTO): Approval possible with 7 days notice

Unit and Patient Information

• Unit Type: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) and Obstetrics
• Unit Beds:

  • 12 LDRP beds
  • 2 triage rooms
  • 2 operating rooms (ORs)
  • 10-bed Level II NICU
• Patient Volume: Approximately 60-80 births per month
• Patient Types:

  • Pregnant patients 32 weeks gestation and above
  • Majority are lower risk
  • Common diagnoses include hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, epidurals, elevated BMI, diabetes
  • Post-delivery care continues in the same room
  • Experience with post-women’s surgeries preferred

Patient Ratios

• 1:1 for laboring patients
• 1:2 for active labor
• 1:3 for couplets (mother and baby)

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of LDRP nursing experience
• First-time travelers: Accepted
• Licenses/Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring certification

Skills Required

• Cervical exams
• Amnio infusions
• Epidurals
• Fetal monitoring
• IV starts and management
• Pitocin administration
• Baby catching/receiving and APGAR scoring
• Basic breastfeeding education
• Comfortable managing all aspects of postpartum care from transition to discharge for mother and baby

• 2 nursing technicians available
• Charge nurse available to assist with patient care
• Phlebotomy support
• Labor & Delivery anesthesia always on call
• Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
• Obstetricians/Gynecologists on call (not necessarily on unit 24/7)
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Lactation consultant available during the day for patient education before discharge
• Management available during daytime hours

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC (preferred)
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
• Patient Monitors: QS Centricity

Orientation

• Neonatal Orientation (NEO)
• 1-2 days unit orientation depending on nurse comfort level
