Registered Nurse - Surgical Acute (Night Shift)

Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Provide nursing care in a 34-bed adult surgical unit.
• Perform standard RPN III duties with a focus on surgical preoperative and postoperative care.
• Care for patients undergoing abdominal surgeries such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies, thyroidectomies, and management of chest tubes and drains.
• Utilize equipment including vital signs machines, IV & PCA pumps, Pyxis medication system, and electronic medical records (WOWS/EMR).
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:5-6.
• Floating to other units/departments may be required.
• Dress code: regular nursing uniforms.

Schedule

• Three 12-hour night shifts per week.
• Must be able to work weekends and flexible shifts.
• No on-call requirement.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Hawaii.
• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Preoperative and postoperative nursing experience.
• Experience with abdominal surgeries including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies, and thyroidectomies.
• Experience managing chest tubes and drains.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Additional Information

• Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
• Flexibility to float to other units as needed.
