Job Opportunity: Interventional Platform - Cardiology

Position Details

• Level II Trauma Center with Magnet designation
• Primary Stroke Center
• 255 beds total
• Covid vaccine required

Unit Information

• 5 procedure rooms: 2 Cath Labs, 1 Electrophysiology (EP) Room, 1 Hybrid Room, 1 Interventional Radiology (IR) Room
• Patient types: Adults only, inpatient and outpatient
• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Charting systems: EPIC, Merge Hemodynamic, GE Cardio (EP), Siemens equipment

Patient Procedures

• Cath Lab: Diagnostic and interventional heart catheterizations, right heart cath, Impella, balloon pump, thrombectomies, high-risk procedures, STEMI/MI, some CTOs, PFO closure
• EP: Pacemakers (temporary and permanent), ablations, MitraClip
• Hybrid: AAA repair, Watchman, TAVR, carotid procedures
• IR: Peripheral diagnostics and interventions, thrombolysis (EKOS), chest tubes, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, paracentesis/thoracentesis, CT/RFA ablations, G-tube placement/exchanges, PICC and tunneled catheter placements, nephrostomy tubes, dialysis grafts, drain placements

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab or IR experience depending on position modality; cross-training in both preferred
• First-time travelers not accepted
• RN Skills: Circulating, sedation, cardiac rhythm interpretation, Impella, balloon pump; hemodynamic monitoring preferred
• RT Skills: Scrub and pan simultaneously, Impella, balloon pump, hemodynamic monitoring
• Hybrid, EP, and IR experience preferred but not required

Certifications & Licenses

• RN: BLS, ACLS
• RT: Illinois IEMA license, ARRT, BLS, ACLS

Support & Team

• Charge Nurse available, may occasionally take patient assignments
• Respiratory Therapist coverage 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Cardiologist available during the day and on call at night
• Rapid Response/Code Team responds to codes in the lab
• Transportation available for IR patients (not for Cath Lab)

Orientation & Scheduling

• 12 hours of facility and unit orientation
• Weekend rotation limited to call only
• On-call expectations:

  • 10-11 call shifts per month, including 2 weekends (Friday-Sunday)
  • Weekday call hours: 4 PM to 7 AM; weekend call from 4 PM Friday to 7 AM Monday
  • 30-minute response time required
  • Call team consists of 3 people: 1 nurse, 1 tech, and 1 nurse or tech
  • No sleep rooms available during call
• Holidays: Facility closed; call team coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
• Time off requests require manager approval
