Job Opportunity: Surgical Room Nurse (Nursing Administration Specialty)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 8-hour evening shift
• Hours per Week: 40
• Schedule:

  • Weekend rotation every 4th weekend (Saturday-Sunday)
  • Shift times include:

    • 06:45 - 15:15
    • 14:45 - 19:15
    • 22:45 - 07:15
    • Options for 3x 12-hour shifts, 2x 8-hour + 2x 12-hour shifts, or 5x 8-hour shifts
    • Hybrid/RT shifts Monday-Thursday, 8-10 hour shifts
  • 6-week rotating schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance
  • No self-scheduling; assignments based on rotation needs
  • Operating room open 24/7, 365 days/year with full staffing during main hours and skeleton crew after hours for trauma/urgent cases
  • Holiday coverage required
  • On-call duties vary by shift/service line with a 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call staff

Unit and Patient Information

• Unit Beds: 28 (including 2 hybrid rooms for cardiovascular/vascular cases)
• Average Cases per Day: Approximately 60-75
• Patient Types: Outpatient, inpatient, trauma cases
• Common Diagnoses/Procedures:

  • Gunshot wounds, stabbings, kidney and heart transplants, donor cases
  • General surgery, gynecology, urology, robotics, vascular, orthopedic, neurology
  • Open heart surgeries including CABG
  • Hybrid room cases (5-10 per day): TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, fistula revisions (adults only)
  • Pediatric cases (~20%): open hearts, appendectomy, cholecystectomy
  • No liver or lung transplants
  • Participation in organ donation cases ("Gifts of Hope")

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Years of Experience: 3 years of acute care experience preferred; hybrid tech roles require 3 years hybrid experience
• First-time travelers: Accepted
• Licenses and Certifications:

  • OR/CVOR Registered Nurse: BLS certification required
  • Surgical Technologist: BLS and CST required
  • Hybrid IR Technician: BLS and ARRT required
  • Surgical Assistant: BLS and CSA required

Skills and Competencies

• OR RN: Ability to scrub and circulate; critical care and trauma experience preferred; EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• CVOR RN: Ability to scrub and circulate adult or pediatric open-heart cases; critical care and Level 1 trauma experience; EPIC experience required
• Surgical Technologist: Ability to scrub the specified cases
• Hybrid IR Technician: Experience with hybrid patient types and Siemens equipment required

• Charge nurse available (no patient assignment Monday-Friday; assists evenings and weekends)

Orientation

• Day 1: Meet educators and ANM, gain login access, complete online modules and EPIC training
• Days 2-3: Unit orientation
