Description
Medical Surgical Nurse (LVN / LPN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York
Shift: Night (4 shifts per 12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- 14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
- Flex space within GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate based on demand
- Float required to med/surg patients based on census and turn
Required Qualifications
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in New York
- Minimum 1 year of Long Term Care experience within the last year
- Med/Surg nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Job Expectations
- LPNs may not assume assignment or act as resource in GI or med/surg units
- Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW)
- Minimal return-to-office (RTO) restrictions
- Call requirements depend on staffing needs
- Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed
- No local candidates accepted within 75 miles
- First-time travel nurses accepted
Certifications & Competencies (As Required by Unit)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blindness testing (one-time)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
Health & Compliance Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)
- Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit mask test (annual) with acceptable mask types; PAPR allowed if failed
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not annual)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Verification
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
- Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file
- Employment application and work history verification required
- References required for direct hire candidates (2 references within 3 years)
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
Additional Notes
- Scrubs color: Navy blue or white
- Communication style: SBAR for ED patients; verbal report for others
- Minimal return-to-office restrictions; float to med/surg patients as needed
- No pending license accepted
