Description

Registered Nurse - PCU (Medical-Renal)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract
  • Call-off Policy: Allowed 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks
  • Floating: May be required to float within skillset

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Virginia State RN license or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only if holding a single-state non-compact license)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • BLS (American Heart Association only)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

Required Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management of cardiac drips (without titration)
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
  • Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Use of rapid response and code teams, maintaining isolation precautions
  • Experience in PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown units
  • Care for adult and geriatric patients, including hospitalist medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Experience with chronic ventilator patients is a plus

  • Physical Exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
  • Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
  • Two clinical references required
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Employment application/resume required

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
