Description
Registered Nurse - PCU (Medical-Renal)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Call-off Policy: Allowed 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks
- Floating: May be required to float within skillset
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active Virginia State RN license or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only if holding a single-state non-compact license)
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
Required Clinical Skills & Experience
- Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management of cardiac drips (without titration)
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
- Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Use of rapid response and code teams, maintaining isolation precautions
- Experience in PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown units
- Care for adult and geriatric patients, including hospitalist medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Experience with chronic ventilator patients is a plus

- Physical Exam within 1 year confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 masks within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations or positive titers required for: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
- Photo for badge (professional, plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
- Two clinical references required
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Employment application/resume required

- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
