Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Boston, MA


Position Overview

  • Role: Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse
  • Location: Boston, Massachusetts
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, 4 days of 10-hour shifts (day shifts with rotating start times at 8am, 9am, 10am, or 11am)
  • Work Days: Monday through Friday, no weekend or holiday requirement (weekend hours optional)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric PACU - Post Anesthetic Care
  • Pediatric PACU - Post Anesthetic Care experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with pediatric patients

Certifications & Competencies

  • PALS and BLS required prior to start
  • Pediatric Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Competency exam specific to unit required
  • Physical exam cleared to work with no restrictions, signed by MD, DO, PA, NP, or registered DC, updated annually
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance required for all travelers (virtual questionnaire and review by licensed healthcare professional)

Immunization & Health Requirements

  • Proof of immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 doses or positive titer required
    • Varicella – 2 doses or positive titer required
    • Hepatitis B – must meet one of the accepted documentation criteria (series + titer, declination, etc.)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap – Tdap given any time after age 11 acceptable (declinations not accepted)
  • Negative TB test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON blood test within 90 days prior to start or 2-step skin test)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (8/1–3/31)
  • COVID-19 initial vaccine series proof or approved exemption required; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not mandatory
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for advanced practice nurses)

Background & Compliance

  • 10-year criminal background check required within 6 months prior to start, including nationwide and alias checks
  • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance required within 6 months prior to start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG sanctions checks required
  • Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
  • Two professional references from two separate employers within the last 3 places of employment
  • Verification of Massachusetts RN license within 30 days of start
  • Proof of name change documentation if applicable

Additional Information

  • No on-call requirement
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted
  • Onboarding packet to be completed approximately 2 weeks prior to start
  • Facility-specific forms and attestations related to COVID and flu exemptions must be completed as required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within one year prior to start

Summary

This is a pediatric PACU RN travel contract position in Boston, MA, requiring at least 2 years of pediatric PACU or ICU RN experience, PALS and BLS certifications, and a valid Massachusetts RN license. The role offers a 13-week contract with day shifts, Monday through Friday, no mandatory weekends or holidays. Comprehensive immunization, background checks, and health clearances are mandatory prior to start. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
