Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Shift Details
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- Floating may be required within specialty and sister units
- On-call not required
Unit and Patient Care Details
- Labor & Delivery (Family Birthplace) unit with LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) setup
- Special Care Nursery (Level II NICU) on site
- Unit includes 14 LDRP beds, 9 overflow beds (for postpartum C-section, antepartum, neonatal abstinence syndrome, bili babies), 2 triage beds, 2 antenatal testing bays, 2 ORs, 2 PACU bays, and 9 Special Care Nursery beds
- Patient diagnoses include antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, antenatal testing, triage, induction, high-risk pregnancies, postpartum pre-eclampsia, and C-section care
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by stage of care:
- Triage: 1:4
- Early labor/induction: 1:2
- Active labor: 1:1
- C-section: 1:1
- Postpartum: 1:4
- Scrub color: Navy blue
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Documentation and Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- I-9 attestation and E-Verify compliance
- Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide and county searches, sex offender registry, OFAC, education verification, and state-specific exclusions (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List)
- Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for L&D and related units)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted; series not accepted)
- TB testing: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year or 2-step PPD as applicable; must be updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 6 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking
- Two professional references within 1 year, including at least one supervisor/manager reference
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Color blindness testing
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) competency as applicable
- Other unit-specific competencies and tests as required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Sign unit-specific job description prior to start
- Sign confidentiality agreements and compliance checklists within specified timeframes
- Submit passport-style photo with solid white or beige background for badge
- Review and comply with dress code, appearance standards, fingernail hygiene policy, and standards of business conduct
- Complete OSHA questionnaire and other health and safety documents as required
- Complete portfolio Epic training test-out form if eligible or attend full Epic training
- Complete any additional facility-specific questionnaires or forms as directed
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Labor and Delivery unit with a supportive nurse-to-patient ratio and exposure to a variety of maternal and neonatal care scenarios. The role requires strong clinical skills, relevant certifications, and compliance with comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
