Cath Lab Tech - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (7:30 AM – 6:00 PM)
- On-call requirement:
- 7 on-call shifts and 5 late shifts every 6 weeks
- One full weekend of call (Friday through Sunday) scheduled together
- One Saturday shift for elective cases per 6-week period
- Must be able to return to hospital within 30 minutes when called
- Holiday requirement: Available to work or take call one holiday per 13-week contract
- Charting system: Epic required
Required Licenses & Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- ARRT(R) or CCI RCIS certification
- Virginia state license preferred for ARRT(R); emergency authorization granted for travelers while permanent license processes
- Active state license accepted (in hand or pending)
Required Clinical Skills & Experience
- Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures including:
- Left and right heart catheterization (LHC, RHC)
- Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), PTCA, stent placement
- Atherectomy, temporary pacer, Impella, IABP, TAVR, Watchman, Mitraclip
- Proficient in sterile technique, EKG lead placement, dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation
- Experienced in hemodynamic monitoring and rapid response protocols
- Familiar with diagnostic/interventional cath lab settings using fluoroscopy
- Knowledge of isolation precautions, equipment handling, and supply management
Unit & Patient Population Details
- Adult patient population
- 6 procedure rooms with daily census of 15–20 patients
- Common diagnoses: coronary artery disease, valve disorders, heart failure, atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closures
- Advanced procedures performed: TAVR, left atrial appendage closures, Cardiomems, thrombectomy, mitral clips, renal denervation, research protocols
- Equipment used includes: IABP, Impella, Penumbra, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, laser, OCT, IVUS
Candidate Requirements & Restrictions
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Local candidates not accepted (radius restrictions apply based on driver's license/state ID address)
- Must provide a valid driver’s license/state ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility
- Must be able to comply with call-off policy: facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 1 year of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Drug screen: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students/practicum trainees)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Required immunizations or positive titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination documentation or declination with masking during flu season
- Photo for badge required (professional quality, no selfies or filters)
- Completion of facility-specific new hire paperwork and compliance documents prior to start
- Orientation Safety Manual review and acknowledgment required prior to start
References & Documentation
- Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist update required
- Radiation badge must be supplied by the facility for new candidates (not provided by agency)
Additional Notes
- Must submit all scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) with application
- Must be able to meet all on-call and holiday requirements as outlined
- Emergency authorization for Virginia license holders allows work while permanent license is processing
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Virginia
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
- Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- Current ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
- ARRT(R) or CCI RCIS certification
- Experience using Epic electronic health record system
This position offers the opportunity to work in a nationally recognized cardiac cath lab with advanced technology and a multidisciplinary team in a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital.
