Description
RN (Registered Nurse) - Float Position
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7pm - 7am)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in 4 weeks
Dress Code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
Job Summary
- Float RN position primarily on general medical-surgical units, with floating limited to other medical units as needed.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Care for a diverse patient population with chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders.
- Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).
Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and equipment such as IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps/tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitors, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, and SCDs for VTE prevention.
- Manage IV therapy including heparin and insulin drips.
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
- At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).
Orientation & Training
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation (Jump Start program).
- Orientation includes 1 day general hospital orientation, approximately 5 days nursing orientation, and Epic training.
- Clinicians returning within 12 months of their last assignment are not eligible for non-billable orientation.
Additional Information
- Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
- Client may cancel or call off up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
- Floating limited to medical units only.
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with a variety of patient diagnoses and procedures, who are flexible to float within medical units and work night shifts with weekend coverage.
