Description

Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Ulm, Minnesota
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Step Down Registered Nurse (SCU Charge RN)
  • Charge nurse experience is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required.
  • First-time travelers are not accepted.
  • Must work every third weekend.
  • Floating within scope of practice may be required.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Local candidates within a 100-mile radius are not accepted.
  • Pending Minnesota RN license is accepted.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, RQI acceptable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC only, PEARS acceptable in lieu of PALS
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only
  • Additional certifications may be required as applicable (e.g., TNCC for trauma nursing)

  • Arterial Line (ART) Insertion
  • Chest Tube Insertion

Equipment Experience

  • NICOM
  • Nihon Kohden monitoring systems
  • Heated High Flow (Airvo)
  • Bipap (V60)
  • Ventilator (PB980)

Required Background & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 1 year, including Minnesota statewide search and other standard checks.
  • MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required prior to start (no pending fingerprints allowed unless approved “more time needed” letter).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year.
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (documentation must be current)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions for patient-facing roles)
    • Hepatitis B (proof of immunity or vaccination series or signed declination)
    • Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination; no exemptions accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules within 72 hours of login (3-9 hours depending on specialty).
  • Photo for badge: passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of signing contract.
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams required.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Minnesota
  • Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current NRP certification
