Job Opportunity: Med/Surg 2 Cardiac Nurse (RN)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour Evening Shift
• Hours per Week: 36

Facility & Unit Overview

• Level IV Trauma Center with Primary Stroke Center designation
• Unit has 10 beds
• Patient population includes high acuity cardiac step-down patients, post-procedure cardiac patients, secondary stroke unit patients, congestive heart failure (CHF), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and telemetry patients
• Telemetry monitoring and independent cardiac rhythm strip interpretation required
• Patient ratios:

  • RN Days: 1:4-5
  • RN Nights: 1:5
  • Tech Days: 1:5
  • Tech Nights: 1:5-10
• Typically 3 RNs per shift (2 on night shift), supported by 2 CNAs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in Med/Surg or cardiac care
• BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Experience with:

  • Reading and interpreting cardiac rhythm strips
  • Managing cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem)
  • Pulling and monitoring sheath sites (permanent staff assist with sheath pulls)
  • Pre/post cardiac catheterization care (femoral/radial access)
  • Chest tube care
  • Non-titrating nitroglycerin and dobutamine (titration reserved for ICU)
  • Post pacemaker care
• EPIC electronic health record system experience required
• Familiarity with Alaris infusion pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation: 1-2 shifts to learn unit flow
• Weekend rotation: every 3rd weekend (default)
• Holiday coverage: 1 summer and 1 winter holiday (flexible between Christmas Eve/Day or New Year’s Eve/Day)
• No on-call responsibilities; low census call coverage in 4-hour increments mainly at night
• Time off requires manager approval

Unit Support & Environment

• Charge nurse takes patient assignments
• Shared responsibility with RNs for phlebotomy/blood draws
• Respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage available 24/7
• Occupational, physical, and speech therapy services available
• IV team available Monday, Wednesday, Friday during day shift
• Floating to other medical-surgical areas on rotation
• Professional scrub attire required (any color)
• Free, onsite, secure parking provided
