Job Opportunity: Med/Surg Nurse (RN)

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour Evening Shift
• Hours per Week: 36

Unit & Patient Information

• Medical-Surgical unit with approximately 24 beds
• Patient types include oncology (some pediatric >1 year old, but no pediatric experience required), surgical (bowel and GU surgeries, continuous bladder irrigation), cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, COVID/TB overflow, and outpatient infusions (antibiotics/fluids)
• No chemotherapy certification required
• Patient ratios:

  • Day: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Evening: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients
  • Overnight: 1 nurse to 6 patients

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in a similar setting
• Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• BLS certification required

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient with chest tubes and stable tracheostomy management (preferred)
• IV skills including care of ports and central lines
• Knowledgeable in CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo respiratory support devices

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation duration: 1-2 days, based on nurse comfort level
• Weekend rotation available (weekends only)
• Holiday work expected every other holiday
• Call is not required but can be arranged if interested
• Time off requires approval from Nurse Manager

Support & Resources

• CNA support with ratios varying by shift (Day: 1:4-5, Evening: 1:6, Overnight: 1:8)
• Charge nurse available who takes a partial patient assignment
• Phlebotomy support available; RNs draw blood from central lines
• IV/VAT team available on Mondays and Thursdays
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• Rapid Response Team and Code Blue team on site
• Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy available weekdays; limited on weekends
• Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry technician support

Technology & Equipment

• Preferred charting system: Epic
• Equipment includes Alaris infusion pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Additional Information

• Floating assignments may include other medical-surgical units and emergency room holds; this unit is first to float
• COVID-19 vaccination is required
• Professional scrub attire required (any color acceptable)

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical nursing who are comfortable managing a variety of patient types and working in a supportive, well-resourced environment.
