Description

Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on Med/Surg Telemetry units with potential to float to units J1-2, J33, and Emergency Department caring for the same patient population.
  • Rotating shifts: 12-hour shifts (7pm–7:30am and 7am–7:30pm). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication administration exam; passing scores required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 18 months of total travel experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least 1.5 years of Telemetry experience, with Telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Certifications & Competencies

  • Certification renewals must be current prior to start if expiring within 30 days.
  • Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) are required for all bedside RNs except OR RNs.
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for exam preparation.
  • Annual renewal of certifications as applicable.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; exemptions require agency approval).
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.

Background & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references from within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Orientation & Facility Requirements

  • Completion of online onboarding modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • Modules include training videos and tests; skipping videos will lock out access.
  • Modules typically take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start.
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
  • Must complete SafeMedicate and ECG competency exams during orientation.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and meet operational needs.

Additional Notes

  • Block scheduling is not accommodated for 48-hour contracts.
  • Candidates with a break in employment longer than 6 months at this facility may need to repeat orientation modules.
  • Candidates must maintain compliance with all health, background, and certification requirements throughout the assignment.
  • Medical and religious exemptions for vaccines and fit mask are accepted but require agency and facility approval.

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts, rotating between day (7:00am–7:30pm) and night (7:00pm–7:30am).
  • Full-time hours: 48 hours per week.

This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Telemetry RNs with recent specialty experience and valid Ohio licensure seeking a travel contract in a fast-paced hospital environment.
